Richard focuses his practice on corrections and law enforcement defense, as well as government liability defense, including the defense of civil claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, Bivens actions, and state law tort claims. He works with attorneys throughout the firm to counsel and defend corrections departments, law enforcement agencies, government agencies, and other public and private entities in Arizona and across the nation in high stakes and complex litigation, including class actions.
Before joining the firm, Richard was a Deputy County Attorney for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. During his tenure as a prosecutor, Richard handled thousands of cases and secured guilty verdicts in multiple jury trials. He developed strong working relationships with law enforcement agents, and presented arguments in court on a daily basis in order to effectively prosecute criminal offenders. He prosecuted cases ranging from Possession of Dangerous Drugs to Aggravated Assault to Armed Robbery. Along with another Deputy County Attorney, Richard was named Division Attorney of the Month for the co-prosecution of State v. Charles Torrance for Attempted Murder.
In his spare time, Richard enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, and weightlifting.
